The Marietta-Cobb Museum Dispels Myths About Modern Art

Modern Art Tour by author Robyn Jamison Comes to Georgia.

The Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art announces a special weekend of activities this April featuring the book The Magic of Modern Art—How to Love Modern and Contemporary Art by Robyn Jamison, MFA.

The Marietta-Cobb Museum Dispels Myths About Modern Art   Marietta, GA (March 11, 2024) – For those who have struggled with liking or even accepting modern art, these events promise to engage viewers in a transformative experience. “After years of taking friends to museums and demonstrating to them how to interact with art, I knew I had to write a book about it,” said the author. “It has been so rewarding to watch people fall in love with modern and contemporary art—something they never dreamed could happen,” she said. Part of her process involves identifying and dispelling what she calls “counterproductive beliefs,” or put another way, that annoying mind chatter that gets in the way of simply enjoying and being with the art.   The weekend includes a special exhibition of art from the book, plus a selection of work by local artists, and curated by Jamison and Madeline Beck, Curator at the Museum, followed by a Magic of Modern Art Tour and book signing.    Events begin Saturday, April 6, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. with the opening of the exhibit.

The art tour and book signing will follow Sunday, April 7 from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. The exhibition will remain on view through June 16, and features a combination of work by artists who were interviewed in the book, among others. Video selections from Ms. Jamison’s installation, “Woman as Object” will also be on view.    The Marietta-Cobb Museum, 30 Atlanta St SE, Marietta, GA 30060. Phone: (770) 528-1444.
