Meet your Facilitator.

Robyn Jamison, artist, author, and educator, holds a Master’s degree in Fine Art and a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education. She has taught at the university level and is a seasoned workshop, seminar, and event leader.

Robyn believes that art is one of the most powerful expressions of our humanity—and that everyone has the innate ability to experience and appreciate it. Her mission is to create a world where everyone, everywhere, experiences the magic and wonder of modern and contemporary art.

At the heart of her work is direct experience. Rather than explaining the art, Robyn guides participants to experience the art directly, so they reawaken their natural affinity for art and see the world through new eyes.

Her approach has proven effective across a wide range of settings, including museum docent trainings, public programs, art education conferences, and private group experiences. Participants leave more engaged, more curious, and with a lasting shift in how they relate to contemporary art.

Robyn has led workshops for organizations such as The Texas Art Education Association and the McNay Art Museum, and has worked with educators and docents across the country. She is also the author of The Magic of Modern Art—How to Love Modern & Contemporary Art, which offers a clear, accessible path into meaningful engagement with modern and contemporary art.

Whether working with seasoned art professionals or first-time museum visitors, her programs are known for being both accessible and deeply impactful—often described as surprising, refreshing, and even life-changing.

What Our Guests Say:

“I want to share an experience that shifted something in me, not only about art, expression, perception, and what it means to stay present with something long enough for it to reveal itself.

I did not arrive (at the museum) as someone who felt fully at ease in the art world. I arrived with nervousness and assumptions. I carried the familiar stereotypes many people carry.

What I appreciated immediately about Robyn’s approach was that she did not begin with a lecture. She did not begin by telling us what to think, what to admire, or what the correct interpretation should be. She created a context that allowed us to notice our own perceptions.

She helped us quickly see…(our) judgements about art, artists, and the art-ecosphere. Then, how our mental chatter gets in the way of being with art in a real and personal way. That movement from conclusion into experience was deeply important for me.

Modern art did not need me to become an expert. It invited me to become available. And in becoming available, I received more than interpretation. I received relationship.

Joy did not arrive because the work became easy. Joy arrived because I had crossed through my own resistance and found living expression on the other side.”

“I really enjoyed your tour. I can now look at art – any type – through a different, and more thoughtful lens. I was one of those people who spent 7 seconds looking at a piece of art. If it was modern art I probably only spent 2 seconds. I would look at art trying to figure out what the artist intended for me to see or feel. I never even considered that I should look at it not based on the artist’s intent, but on how it made me feel – good or bad.I attended your session with the goal of learning how I might enjoy modern art, rather than ignoring modern art. I came away not only learning how to view modern art, but all other art, as well. You’re a very good teacher! I award you 10 out of 10 stars!”

“I attended the VIP Magic of Modern Art Tour with Robyn Jamison at The Contemporary Austin in April 2025. As an artist, I already considered myself open to all types of art—but the discussion during Robyn’s tour revealed otherwise. I realized I held some surprisingly firm predispositions about which contemporary works I was willing to engage with, let alone enjoy. By letting go of those assumptions, I discovered—through direct experience—how much more is available when approaching modern and contemporary art with curiosity and openness.”

“I was fortunate enough to experience a personal Magic of Modern Art Tour recently with Robyn at the McNay in San Antonio.

Robyn’s “Art Tours” are an invitation for non-artists to deeply engage with Modern and Contemporary work.  Robyn never lectures.  She invites participants to slow down and fully explore just a few pieces.  Through a series of questions, Robyn enables tour participants to notice the artists’ media, methods, and composition.   Participants quickly become more confident, as Robyn becomes a “co-discoverer” of the works.  Pieces that seemed intimidating or irrelevant at the start of the tour become cherished friends as the tour unfolds.

Particularly for participants who are inductive learners, who might never sign up for an “art class,” Robyn’s Art Tours are a fascinating and unforgettable way to step into the world of Modern art.”

“Robyn Jamison does seem to have found a ‘magical’ way to introduce or re-introduce art viewers to modern art. I have never been entirely convinced that I appreciate modern art as much as I should as a long-time art lover, art student, and collector. Now I think I’ve had a breakthrough thanks to Robyn.

My husband and I recently took a guided tour with Robyn through a local art museum. We spent considerable time looking at the pieces we chose. I now appreciate modern art with a new perspective.

The weekend after our tour I was at an art exhibit looking for modern art. The landscapes and floral paintings no longer intrigued me as they had before. They were missing the emotional content I had discovered while looking at modern art with Robyn’s coaching. I look forward to more discoveries with my new ‘magic of modern art’ eyes.”
